I hope you enjoy learning about what we are doing in kindergarten.
Please feel free to visit this page regularly, as I will keep you informed of the activities in the class and other information.
We are working on addition and subtraction at the concrete level and enjoy calculating and then eating different goodies. We are also practicing counting by two's and five's.
Now that we know the letter sounds we are working on letter
patterns which we call "families" and we're now bringing home our "Book in a Bag" again. Please continue to read these books with your child and reinforce reading of all kinds. The families we have worked on so far are: an, ap, at,ot,op,in,it,ip,ing, and ell.
March is a busy month for us. We celebrated Dr.Seuss' birthday and met a great illustrator, Floyd Cooper. We had a wonderful field trip to the Keswick Theater where we enjoyed the Peking Acrobats and we have another trip coming up in April to the Morris Arboretum ( a tree museum ). We are learning about Spring and all that goes with it along with a study of constellations and the solar system. We talk about the "Night Sky" and hope you get a chance to get out some nights to check it out. ( moon, big dipper, north star, etc.)
I look forward to meeting with everyone on Conference Day this Friday, March 12th. The Book Fair will be open that day but only until 1:00pm.
Thank you again, for your support, both for the class and for the help you are giving your child. It makes all the difference.
Please feel free to be in touch at any time either by phone, note, or email ( diana_weaver@sdst.org).
